David W. Sunday Jr. (born June 13, 1975) is an American attorney and politician who is serving as the Pennsylvania attorney general since 2025. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as York County district attorney from 2018 to 2025.
Early life and career
Sunday graduated from East Pennsboro High School in Enola, Pennsylvania, in 1993. He enrolled at Harrisburg Area Community College, but dropped out to enlist in the United States Navy,[2] and he served from 1995 to 1999.[3] He then graduated from Pennsylvania State University and the Widener University Commonwealth Law School. While attending school, he worked for UPS. He began his legal career as a law clerk for a judge in the York County Court of Common Pleas.[4] He then joined the district attorney's office in York County, Pennsylvania, in 2009.[5]
In 2013, the U.S. Department of Justice appointed Sunday as a special assistant U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. Sunday won the 2017 election to serve as district attorney of York County,[5] and took office in January 2018.[3]
In July 2023, Sunday announced his candidacy in the 2024 election for Pennsylvania Attorney General.[3][6] He defeated Craig Williams in the Republican Party primary election[7] and defeated Democratic Party nominee Eugene DePasquale in the November general election.[8]
Personal life
Sunday and his wife, Lishani, have a son.[9]
