The Shree Camp Hanuman Temple (Hindi: कैंप हनुमान मंदिर) is one of the biggest Hanuman temples in India. It is situated in Ahmedabad Cantonment in Shahibaug, Ahmedabad in the Indian state of Gujarat.[1][2] The temple is owned by Shri Hanumanji Mandir Camp Trust Ahmedabad
Establishment and Early Years
[edit]- Founded by Pandit Gajanan Prasad, a devoted follower of Lord Hanuman.
- Originally known as Jalalpur Hanumanji Temple.
- Revered by locals as a powerful place of worship.
- Ahmedabad served as a military base during the British colonial period.
- Gayakvad Haveli was used as a military cantonment before the British established an army base near the temple.
- A British military hospital was built nearby.
- A British executive officer suggested relocating the temple.
- Temple priest and devotees opposed the relocation.
- British authorities demolished four hotels and several small temples.
- When attempting to demolish the Hanuman temple, thousands of devotees gathered in yellow and black clothing to protect it.
- A massive swarm of wasps attacked only the laborers, preventing demolition for a week.
- The British officer withdrew the demolition order, considering it a divine intervention.
- Traditional and simplistic architectural style.
- Renovated over time, maintaining its spiritual essence.
- Houses an ancient idol of Lord Hanuman, believed to be self-manifested (Swayambhu).
Divine Protection and Miracles

- Special aartis and pujas every Tuesday and Saturday.
- Hanuman Jayanti festival celebrated with grand processions.
- Monthly ritual includes anointing the idol with oil and vermilion, followed by silver and gold foiling.
- Located in a military cantonment, deeply associated with soldiers and army personnel.
- Many army officers visit the temple before missions, believing in Hanumanji’s protection.
- Tuesday & Saturday: Open till 11:00 PM.
- Other Days: Open till 9:00 PM.
- Strictly no Foreigner(s) are allowed inside.
