Team Eastern Europe (Baseball)

Baseball Team Eastern Europe is a composite baseball team comprised of top players from multiple Eastern European nations. The team was created for inaugural an exhibition game held in Brooklyn, New York, in June 2025 as part of Eastern European Day celebrations hosted by the Brooklyn Cyclones.

History

Team Eastern Europe was formed in early 2025 to participate in a high-profile exhibition game at Maimonides Park in Brooklyn, New York. The initiative was part of an event known as Eastern European Day, celebrating the culture, sports, and communities of Eastern Europe within the New York City area.[1] [2]

The team's creation was spearheaded by international baseball advocates including Dimitry Sagalchik and featured support from Major League Baseball personalities. Notably, John McLaren, former MLB manager, served as the manager of Team Eastern Europe.

The team's first and only game took place on June 1, 2025, against the national baseball team of Ukraine. The game was played as part of a broader community celebration involving dance, music, and cultural performances.

Legacy

It has never being Team Eastern Europe in the international sporting events until Baseball Team was form on June 1st 2025. The initiative served to spotlight the sport’s growth in the region and encouraged future collaborations and competitions. It also promoted cross-cultural connections between Eastern European communities in North America and abroad.

Both McLaren and Valentine are former Major League Baseball managers and were brought in to elevate the event’s visibility and professionalism.
