BetterSleep, formerly known as Relax Melodies, is a mobile application developed by Canadian company Ipnos Software to help sleep, whose features include guided meditations, soundscapes, bedtime stories, and breathing exercises.[1][2] A free version is available, but many features require a subscription.[3]
History
[edit]Relax Melodies was launched in 2009 by Montreal-based entrepreneur Simon Alex Bérubé. Initially focused on white noise and nature sounds, the app gradually expanded to include meditations, bedtime stories, and wellness content. In 2021, the app was rebranded as BetterSleep.[4][5]
In 2020, the app partnered with Sleep Inn hotels.[6]
As of 2020, BetterSleep has been downloaded over 50 million times worldwide.[2]
Features
[edit]BetterSleep uses a mix-and-match sound mixer, allowing users to create personalized sleep environments tailored to their preferences.[1][3]
Reception
[edit]Insider, Yahoo News, USA Today, MobileSyrup, and MakeUseOf have reviewed the app.[7][8][9][10][11]
Some sleep experts also warn that apps may supplement, but not replace, professional treatment for sleep disorders.[12]
