Draft:Fantaazma

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fantaazma (also known as Fantasma or Fantasma Goria) is a multi-lingual intermedia performance artist, songwriter, and musician from Hamburg, Germany. Fantaazma's art combines elements of opera, rap, and soul/R&B, electronica, funk, and hip-hop, alongside interpretive dance, Jungian archetypal performance, Virtual Reality (VR) technology, and modern dramaturgical concepts influenced by Gesamtkunstwerk, Promenade Immersive Theater, and other ideas propagated by Fluxus. Signed to Bootzilla Records[1][2], Fantaazma currently collaborates through the label with other artists such as Bootsy Collins, Dave Stewart, Buckethead, Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, Victor Wooten, Branford Marsalis, and Marcus Miller.

Fantaazma maintains a high level of anonymity similar to the The Residents, whose work was also influenced by Fluxus. Fantaazma appears exclusively in characteristic wigs, heterochromia, and other costuming, each combination representing a specific archetypal persona in her performances. Fantaazma regards these personas as an integral part of a broader Gesamtkunstwerk aesthetic, aiming to shift attention from the artist's identity to a symbolic, experiential narrative across interrelated works.

Musical Career

[edit]

Fantaazma's debut album, Fantasma Goria,[3] was released on June 10, 2017, under the label, Fantaazmic Productions. Her subsequent project, Fantaazma's Remix Safari, released on April 20th, 2018, featured remixes by electronica and funk producers such as Hans Nieswandt and JJ Whitefield.

In 2019, Fantaazma collaborated with German rapper Samy Deluxe on his SaMTV Unplugged[4] project. Additionally, she contributed to Samy Deluxe's 2019 album Hochkultur, where her vocal arrangements can be heard on multiple songs alongside a lengthy performance on the song "Suppengabel."

In 2022 Fantaazma was signed to the United States based recording label, Bootzilla Records. This was accompanied by a string of collaborations with Bootsy Collins and other American based artists (see the Collaborations section below). The first of such collaborations were "Hip Hop Lollipop,"[5] "Rocketship,"[6] and "Funk Not Fight",[7][8][9][10][11] and the 2025 release of Album of the Year #1 Funkateer[12][13][14][15][16][17].

Studio Albums

[edit]

Fantasma Goria[23][24][25][26] – Fantaazmic Productions; Released: 10.06.2017

Fantasma Goria was Fantaazma's first large-scale intermedia project. The album blends opera, jazz, funk, electronica, and hip-hop musical genres. The release simultaneously was accompanied by a series of performance art videos and temporary intermedia installations, introducing the Jungian archetype personas that shape her artistic presentations.

Remix Albums

[edit]

Fantaazma's Remix Safari[27] – Fantaazmic Productions; Released: 04.20.2018

This remix compilation was created by multiple producers such as Hans Nieswandt and JJ Whitefield. The project was a series of reinterpretations of songs from Fantaazma's previous album. The album focuses on disco, house, and electronica musical genres.

Extended Plays

[edit]

PoltergeistBootzilla Records; Released: 12.30.2022

Released on Bootzilla Records, the central narrator of this EP is Fantaazma's "Poltergeist" persona, illustrating the struggle and emergence of repressed libido. The music genres are electronica and funk. The song "Fantaazmic," a remake of Bootsy Collins's "Party on Plastic," reproducing the exact custom sounds invented by Bootsy and replacing Bootsy with Fantaazma's Poltergeist persona as the work's central narrator. During an interview at SXSW, Bootsy discusses Fantaazma reproducing Bootsy's sound treatments and cites an early version of the song as being the reason for signing Fantaazma to the United States based record label, Bootzilla Records.[28]
