Français : Aliénor d’Aquitaine et Rosemonde Clifford, vers 1826, par Marie-Philippe Coupin de La Couperie "Coupin de la Couperie illustre le moment où la reine, accompagnée de deux de ses servantes, contraint la belle Rosemonde à se donner la mort. Dans un souci de cohérence historique, le peintre multiplie les détails qu’il emprunte au vocabulaire esthétique médiéval : porte de style roman et plafond gothique, mobilier et instruments de musique anciens, armoiries ornées d’un lion et costumes. La figure de la reine, un couteau à la main, semble s’inspirer de plusieurs portraits présumés de Lucrèce Borgia alors que la servante évoque l’une des sculptures hurlantes de Niccolò dell’Arca à Bologne."
