Object history Presented to Frederick Henry, Prince of Orange, in 1645. In return in 1646 Frederick Henry presented a golden maulstick made by goldsmith Hans Coenraad van Brechtel to the Jesuits, of which Daniël Seghers was a member. Constantijn Huygens, secretary to Frederick Henry, also wrote a poem in thanks, and oversaw exchange. The maulstick is now lost, but a copy was made ca. 1724-1750 (see image).
