English: An excerpt of a letter from Todor Aleksandrov to Vladimir Karamfilov, July 6 1919. 5. It is not true that the emigration of the autonomists wanted autonomy and not annexation. Just the opposite is true, because all perceive that autonomy brings unknowns and new struggles. The foreigners are also frightened of this, which is evident from the many articles in their newspapers. We all perceive autonomy, or rather the establishment of an independent Macedonia, as a lesser evil than the impossibility of uniting now. Only the narrow-minded Bolshevik H[adzhi]dimov, the anarchist-lentyay Gerdzhikov, the schmucker-beelzebub Gyorche, and the traitors both in the past and now to the Bulgarian people, the Sandanists, speak and agitate that autonomy for Macedonia should be demanded, because it is a separate economic and geographical entity with a separate "Macedonian people", with its own centuries of history, and so that they will not pay the debts of Bulgaria, and some of them are threatening to do so: "If by some miracle all of Macedonia is given to Bulgaria, we will fight with arms in hand to prevent this unification. " 6. The Bulgarian population in Macedonia is even more unanimous for unification with Bulgaria, if it can take place. On this there are touching scenes throughout Macedonia... 7. The Bulgarian emigration in America, Switzerland, etc. is also unanimous. 8. With the Gyorche - H[adzhi]dimov - Gerdzhikov mafia there are only 2 fraternities of 50-60 members each in Sofia and in 7-8 towns in Bulgaria 20-80 people at most, and more the former Sandanists - Young Turk guns and uninformed persons. They are losing ground every day. 9. In Macedonia we know better what the Bulgarian population wants than anyone else, because our relations with them are great. As for the struggle with the Gyorchevites in Macedonia, of which you are so frightened, it is not easy, or there will hardly be such a struggle, because if, God forbid, Macedonia remains under slavery, all the "autonomist fighters" will now hide in mouse holes, as they did (1906-1918) and one knows who will continue the struggle, and if the freedom, the independence of Macedonia is obtained, the population inside knows well its selfless and brave leaders, has learned through the struggles and the abuse of the cowards, so that the first years at least will not be lied to in any way. Hearty greetings T. Aleksandrov P. S. When you want an agreement with the "Gyorchevtsi", you are wasting your time in vain - you are beating water into a mortar, because it is absolutely impossible: they are irreconcilable for many reasons that I cannot enumerate to you. Read their ballots and you will know the irreconcilability, and I will tell you the real reasons on occasion. The same one P. S. It would be well rather that your fraternity should choose 2 delegates to the fraternity convention here - you and Blagoev may choose e.g. and come here on the 1 Sunday when the convention is in session to study directly the situation here, the "differences" and the news, and keep the members of the fraternity informed also. The same one. |
