DescriptionGottfried Wende House, Buffalo, New York - 20200514.jpg
English: The Gottfried Wende House, 2256 Bailey Avenue, Buffalo, New York, May 2020. Built c. 1870 (possibly earlier; a home owned by one F. Simon is shown in the 1866 Stone & Stewart Atlas of Erie County in what appears to be the same location), this pint-sized cottage is much older than most of its neighbors in the Far East Side neighborhood where it's located and sports an Italianate style that comes through most clearly on the windows, topped variously with round and segmental arches. Attorney Gottfried H. Wende (1852-1933) worked with the firm of Wende & Wende before entering politics, winning a seat in the New York State Assembly in 1909 which he occupied for four years, then serving in the State Senate until 1915. He was a Democrat. The Wende House was named a City of Buffalo Landmark in 2015 and is currently vacant.
