DescriptionJoseph Sweet House, Buffalo, New York - 20200125.jpg
English: The Joseph Sweet House, 246 Jersey Street at Fargo Avenue, Buffalo, New York, January 2020. Built in 1880 from a design by Holmes & Little, this cross-gabled Victorian Gothic house sports a definite Swiss influence that's unusual among Buffalo architecture: witness the steeply-pitched hip roof, the quartet of narrow windows in the gable on the Jersey Street façade, and the overall slender dimensions. Eastlake-style woodwork is also evident on the gable above the dormer window at right. Joseph Buffum Sweet (1827-1892) was head of J.B. Sweet and Son, manufacturer of children's carriages, and also head of the Buffalo Orphan Asylum.
