Español: El 2 de febrero de 1961, se realiza el primer lanzamiento de un cohete en América del Sur, se trata del APEX-A1-02 Alfa Centauro, de una sola etapa y propulsante sólido del tipo doble base (nitroglicerina y nitrocelulosa) para investigaciones meteorológicas. Tiene 2,7 m de largo y 28 kg de peso.
Se dispara desde la Base Santo Tomé, Pampa de Achala, provincia de Córdoba. Alcanza 20 kilómetros de altura. El Instituto de Investigaciones Aeronáuticas y espaciales (ex Instituto Aerotécnico) dependiente de la Dirección Nacional de Fabricación e Investigación Aeronáutica (DINFIA), dirigido por el comodoro Aldo Zeoli, tuvo a su cargo la construcción y la ejecución de la experiencia. |
