English: Slice of giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) in the entrance hall at the Gallery of Botany of the French National Museum of Natural History in Paris. The individual from which this sample is taken comes from the Sequoia National Park in California, USA. The tree, about 2,200 years old, fell in 1917 and the park's management decided to cut off a few slices in order to offer them to some institutions. One of these slices was offered in 1921 to the American Legion, which is based in Paris and which deposited the sample at the Jardin des plantes.
