Summary

Description
English: The short sword barung is commonly used by the Tausug Moros of Sulu archipelago in the Philippines.

The most sought after wood for the Moro sword hilt is the banati (bunti) wood, like the one shown in the sample above. Note the very tight wood grains plus the nice pattern possessed by such hardwood.

The collar (ferrule) on the hilt is brass. Lacquered cord is usually added on Moro barungs and krises to improve grip.
