Aerial view looking northerly (upstream) at construction activity on the New Melones Dam spillway. The New Melones Dam and Spillway are under construction by the U.S. Corps of Engineers on the Stanislaus River about 35 miles northeast of Modesto, California. The project will form a 2.4 million acre-feet reservoir and its 300 megawatt hydroelectric powerplant will generate about 430 million kilowatt-hours of energy each year. J.C. Dahilig, Photo.
