| Description |
English: A single acting Cornish pumping engine. Steam is initially admitted through valve A, and exhausted through valve C, as the piston descends. On the upward stroke A and C are closed and valve B, the equilibrium valve, allows steam to flow from the top of the cylinder to the bottom. |
