The vireo is an endemic sub-species threatened with extinction since "The Blight" of the 1940s that caused the loss of millions of the endemic Bermuda JunipersJuniperus bermudiana that had densely forested the archipelago until then. The Fiddlewood is an invasive species introduced to Bermuda in the 1830s by Archdeacon Aubrey Spencer.[1][2][3]
