Production
[edit]It was announced in May 2022 that a sequel to This Is Spinal Tap was in development, with Rob Reiner, Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer reprising their roles and Reiner returning as director.[2]
In November 2023, Reiner announced musicians Paul McCartney, Elton John and Garth Brooks were set to make cameo appearances as themselves.[3]
On a budget of $22.6 million (before tax incentives),[1] filming began in New Orleans in March 2024,[4] with Questlove and Trisha Yearwood included among the cameo appearances.[5] Fran Drescher was announced to be reprising her role as Bobbi Flekman at the end of March, with John Michael Higgins and Chris Addison among the new additions to the cast.[6] Paul Shaffer, who played inept promo man Artie Fufkin in the original film, was also announced as being in the cast. Unlike Drescher, who was confirmed to be reprising Bobbi Flekman, it was not revealed if Shaffer would be reprising his earlier role.
Release
[edit]In July 2024, Reiner estimated the film being released in "late spring or early summer" of 2025.[7]
