SEG wiki

[edit]

Although Prof. Amos Noor was one of the top geophysicists in the world, there are almost no biographical sources about him, with the exception of his roles, publications and inventions on the Stanford University website. The website in question is one of the publications of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists where (among other things) professional biographical details are published in addition to scientific information for the use of geophysicists everywhere. The suffix wiki may mislead as to whether it is a worthy source of reference. This suffix shows the technology of the site, and not the essence as we know it in Wikipedia. Although, each member can add information, but any information that is added is reviewed as to its correctness and validity by the union. Therefore, given the lack of other information, relying on the SEG Wiki is an justified necessity in my opinion.Ronavni (talk) 12:46, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ldm1954, In connection with the tag that was raised, I put in quotation marks quotes from others who wrote what was perceived as promotion of the subject, and what they wrote earlier in his life about his discoveries on the SEG (Society of Exploration Geophysicists) website, when these wording was reviewed by the editors of the SEG. I'll continue to look for such wordings to fix them or to put quatation marks that fit what is written in the source. I ask you the permmission to eraze the tag. thank you, Ronavni (talk) 12:20, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ronavni, it is better but I think you still have a bit more to do. As one example there are the sentences:
His work on the elastic properties of fractured rock forms a large part of the experimental and theoretical basis for modern methods for locating and mapping seismic fractures.
This has been the laboratory and theoretical basis of almost all modern seismic methods for characterization of fractures.
These claims might be true, I don't know, but as written it is unsourced bragging. Please look carefully at everything, then ping me again. Ldm1954 (talk) 12:33, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
N.B., I am OK with his notability, but feel that you should clean it up a little -- if I did I would probably make mistakes. You should probably ask at the Teahouse about inline quoting, although a quick check if WP:Quotations suggests that what you have done is OK. Since I don't use quotes in general I don't know enough. WP:MOS is also good, some people are picky. Ldm1954 (talk) 12:40, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ldm1954 I found a quotation of this in the SEG (Society of Exploration Geophysicists website under the chapter called "Early years and education". I don't see any other possibility to mention this but through a quotation of this. I didn't find any prevention of citting here and there very short quatations, and to give at the end of the phrase the source's details. is it O.K. with you? Thanks, and thank you especialy for "discover" for me the tool of Wikipedia:Teahouse , I used this Ronavni (talk) 13:44, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Check with the Teahouse about quotes please. As I mentioned, I am not familiar with using them. You don't want someone (later) to wade in and remove them all as inappropriate -- some editors/reviewerd are aggressive Ldm1954 (talk) 14:15, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll do. Ronavni (talk) 14:26, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ldm1954 I think I have found the right instructions on the subject. They appear here, and therefore I added a credit before mentioning the source. Thank you for beeing so helpfull today, and in the past when I had problems with Amir Sagi's article (by the way, he earned lately a Lifetime Achievement Award from BARD). just let me know please if it ok to erase the tag now. Ronavni (talk) 15:03, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I removed it, nice job. Ldm1954 (talk) 15:13, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much Ronavni (talk) 15:37, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
