If there had been an article about the other actor, there could be a hatnote to that article, but there isn't. Please don't say that other editors are not allowed to change anything. Yes, I realise that. There is a system for how that kind of situation is handled on Wikipedia, with special links to the article about the other person with a similar name (see for instance the top of M. K. Radha), or separate pages that list all the different people with similar names (like Karthik). But since there is no article about Ashwin Kumar Lakshmikanthan, you can't add such a link, and the kind of comment you added to the article just isn't appropriate. --bonadea contributions talk 07:26, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: moved to Ashwin (actor, born 1987). There is consensus that the pre-discussion title, Ashwin Kumar, is ambiguous with Ashwin Kumar Lakshmikanthan. Similarly, while the title Ashwin (actor) was proposed, it was noted that the mononym Ashwin is also sometimes used by the actor Ashwin Kakumanu, creating a potential ambiguity there as well. Thus, the two most feasible titles are Ashwin (television actor) or Ashwin (actor, born 1987). Discussion participants had reservations about both options – it was noted that "television actor" may still be ambiguous, and that this actor's birth year is poorly sourced – but, gauging the degree of support vs. opposition for each title, my read of the result is that there is a very rough consensus in favor of Ashwin (actor, born 1987).

Additionally, in the interest of transparency: this title was proposed without a comma, but I've taken the liberty of adding a comma before "born 1987" myself, to be WP:CONSISTENT with how we structure similarly disambiguated titles. Since this is a purely typographical edit within a parenthetical disambiguator, I believe my change is trivial enough for it not to be a WP:SUPERVOTE; however, if anyone feels that the title should omit that comma, they may feel free to remove it. Ashwin Kumar → Ashwin (television actor) – A simple Google search of Ashwin Kumar will bring up Ashwin Kumar Lakshmikanthan (also note the difference in page views). The first source, fourth source and fifth source (the second and third sources in this article do not mention his name) use the name "Ashwin" or "Aswin" with no mention of Kumar. Only the last two sources use the name "Ashwin Kumar". The sources on the page Ashwin Kumar Lakshmikanthan use the name "Ashwin Kumar". Ashwin Kumar should ideally be a redirect to Ashwin Kumar Lakshmikanthan or a disambiguation page for both names. Many people navigating to Ashwin Kumar Lakshmikanthan will have first come to this page by mistake. Comment. Would Ashwin (actor) not be sufficient? Are there any other actors just known as Ashwin? If you're trying to disambiguate between him and Ashwin Kumar Lakshmikanthan, the latter has also acted in television. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:44, 4 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Necrothesp: You make a good point. There is an actor called Ashwin Kakumanu who is sometimes credited as Ashwin (he does not work in television though). See Ashwin (given name). A more confusing option would be to make this article titled Ashwin (television actor, born 1987) but there is no reliable source for the birthdate. Support Ashwin (actor born 1987). The page currently has a reference which gives 1987 as his birth date, and it is clear that the existing name 'Ashwin Kumar' does not suffice for disambiguation. The two actors named Ashwin Kumar seem to have both acted in film and in television. The other guy, Ashwin Kumar Lakshmikanthan, could be kept under his existing name.
