"due to the meta quest's limitations he chose a low poly artstyle" I don't believe to be true
[edit]as a fan of the game for now 3+ years,(going on 4) the line has ALWAYS been, "he picked the low poly artstyle due to his inexperience in modeling" and thats why the games textures and models were "upgraded" (subjectively) in the summer update of 2022, of course the quest is limited but this story isn't of a mastermind, he wasn't thinking about that yet it worked out anyway. (take this with a grain of salt, I don't have proof, but it'd always seemed to me common knowledge that it was in its entirety his at the time admittedly poor modeling, final note, please do let me know if this is a correct usage of the talk feature)Beesul (talk) 22:02, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, you did fine with the talk feature.
- I think your point is interesting - the source cited says "
Targeting the original and underpowered Oculus Quest headset, Smith knew he would need to work within his limitations for Gorilla Tag, and he told me he was inspired by a YouTube channel called Alpha Beta Gamer that's dedicated to playing under-the-radar indie games, many of which featured PS1-style visuals.
" (The source also says elsewhere that the game has a "low-poly (and now heavily memed) art style
".) - When writing the article, I interpreted the source as saying that the Quest had limitations, and that the inspired art style was implemented as a result (together with the inspiration from the videos). Now that you mention that, I guess saying that he worked "within his limitations" might be a bit vague (within his personal limitations or the first-generation Oculus Quest's limitations?). The use of the word "underpowered" to characterize the Oculus Quest could've just been as clarification to distinguish from the other Quest generations.
- It's not clear from the source. Thanks for bringing that up, I'll remove that part. ObserveOwl (talk) 22:36, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
New Gamemodes
[edit]There are 2 new gamemodes, Freeze Tag and Guardian. 2601:3C6:180:5C00:F1D7:16FD:A484:51B1 (talk) 13:26, 26 February 2025 (UTC)
- The official website doesn't mention them, weird. This article is in a weird spot where the gameplay section is a bit out-of-date, but the new gamemodes aren't documented on reliable sources. According to the wiki, the new gamemodes are permanent now, but that can't be cited. Maybe the article can clarify in some way that the previous four modes have been the main ones for most of Gorilla Tag's history. ObserveOwl (talk) 13:52, 26 February 2025 (UTC)
