A barnstar for you!

[edit]
The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
Thank you for your efforts to expand Ryukyu- and Okinawa-related articles. ミラー強斗武 (StG88ぬ会話) 09:51, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yue, and sorry to be the bearer of more bad news regarding the WikiCup. You recently submitted Template:Did you know nominations/Togo at the 2014 Winter Olympics for DYK points, which is not eligible for DYK points because it was nominated to DYK as a newly promoted GA. Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring#Did you know? states that only newly created or expanded DYKs are eligible for DYK points. The rules specifically exclude DYK submissions from receiving points if their appearance on DYK is solely because the article was a newly promoted GA.

We appreciate your efforts in improving articles to GA status and nominating them for DYK. It is just unfortunate that your two recent GAs were promoted before the contest, while this DYK was promoted specifically because of a GAN promotion. – Epicgenius (talk) 16:25, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Epicgenius: Oh, right! Forgot about the GA-DYK rule, sorry about that. Yue🌙 19:15, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder: GA backlog drive

[edit]

Hello! Just a reminder that, if you have time, you are welcome to join the ongoing GA backlog drive; it runs until the end of January. You are receiving this message because you signed up on the drive page but have not yet listed any reviews. We hope to see you there! Either way, happy editing! —Ganesha811 (talk) 01:15, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Flag of Okinawa Prefecture

[edit]

On 11 January 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Flag of Okinawa Prefecture, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the white ring on the flag of Okinawa Prefecture (pictured) represents the "O" in "Okinawa"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Flag of Okinawa Prefecture. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Flag of Okinawa Prefecture), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

About the abbreviation of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region

[edit]
Motor vehicle plate schematic diagram in China

In Chinese people’s high school geography textbooks, the abbreviation of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is described as “内蒙古” , this is not such things just like “Beijing City” and “Beijing”. Ref: table 1.2, page 8 of the geography textbook for the first semester of the eighth grade by the People’s Education Press, ISBN 978-7-107-26400-9. @Key0121: You've seen modern Chinese license plates before, right? That's what the abbreviations are referencing in the articles you edited. That's why all the other abbreviations are one character. I know it's not like "Beijing City" and "Beijing" because that's the exact same thing I'm saying. Yue🌙 01:49, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Yue: In fact, when mentioned with other provinces, the character “蒙” is sometimes used in the official press release. But this cannot explain why the Chinese government uses the “abbreviation” of one character and three characters at the same table.—Key0121.AutoConfirmed (Talk) 02:42, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Key0121: The explanation is that there are two different contexts. It's fine to add 内蒙古 to the infobox in Inner Mongolia, but there's no reason to remove in the same dit because they are both abbreviations of 内蒙古自治区. It also doesn't make sense to change one abbreviation of one item in the list in Autonomous regions of China, but not the other items in the same list. Yue🌙 02:45, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okey, so can I will put both “蒙” and “内蒙古” in this article, and mark the latter as the official expression? Key0121.AutoConfirmed (Talk) 02:51, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The current way of writing is fine.—Key0121.AutoConfirmed (Talk) 02:52, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
