The 1998 Northern Iowa Panthers football team represented the University of Northern Iowa as a member of the Gateway Football Conference during the 1998 NCAA Division I-AA football season. Led by second-year head coach Mike Dunbar, the Panthers compiled an overall record of 7–4 with a mark of 3–3 in conference play, placing in a three-way tie for third in the Gateway Football Conference.[1] Northern Iowa played home games at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
