The 2024 GameAbove Sports Bowl is a college football bowl game that is scheduled to be played on December 26, 2024, at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. The 10th annual GameAbove Sports Bowl game (though only the first under the name; prior editions were known as the Quick Lane Bowl) will feature Pittsburgh and Toledo. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. EST and will air on ESPN.[2][3] The game will be one of the 2024–25 bowl games concluding the 2024 FBS football season.
Teams
[edit]Based on conference tie-ins, the game was expected to feature teams from the Big Ten Conference and the Mid-American Conference (MAC). There was no Big Ten team available to play so it became an at-large bid and that let an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) team participate in the game. This is the fourth time Pittsburgh and Toledo have faced each other. The first time was in 2002 and in the last two meetings Toledo upset # 9 Pittsburgh in the 2003 season and when they faced each other in the 2006 season.
Pittsburgh Panthers
[edit]The Panthers entered the game with a 7–5 record (3–5 in the ACC), having finished in tenth place in their conference. This is going to be the Panthers third time playing a bowl game in Detroit. The last time they did was in 2019, when the game was known as the Quick Lane Bowl. They beat Eastern Michigan by the score of 34–30. They also played in Detroit for a bowl game in 2013 when the game was called the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.
Toledo Rockets
[edit]The Rockets entered the game with a 7–5 record (4–4 in the MAC), having finished in seventh place in their conference. This is going to be the Rockets fifth time playing a bowl game in Detroit. The last time they did, the game was called the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl back in 2010. They also played in Detroit for a bowl game when the game was called the Motor City Bowl in 2001, 2002 and 2004, with the only win in 2001 coming against Cincinnati 23–16.
