At 00:45 a.m. on 25 December 2024, Christmas Day, a Mercedes-Benz E-Class was driven into four pedestrians along the wrong side of the road of Shaftesbury Avenue, Soho in Westminster, London, England, with one pedestrian left in critical condition.[1]
A 31-year-old man named Anthony Gilheaney from Harlow, Essex[2] was arrested as a suspect and charged with 4 counts of attempted murder. The Metropolitan Police stated that they were not treating the incident as terror-related and that the suspect was involved in an altercation at a nightclub prior to the attack.[2] He appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on two days after the attack on the 27th and is remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on 24 January 2025.[2]
