Bhawani Shankar Chowdhry (born 1 January 1959) is a Pakistani ICT officer and electronics engineer. He is a professor emeritus and advisor at Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET) in Jamshoro, Sindh. He served as a Dean of the Faculty of Electrical, Electronics, & Computer Engineering from 2011 to 2018.[2]
Early life and education
[edit]Bhawani Shankar Chowdhry was born on 1 January 1959 in Kantio, Sindh, Pakistan. In 1983, he completed bachelor of Enineering degree in Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) with First Class Honours. He gave lectures in the electric engineering department at MUET.
In 1984, he got a Merit Scholarship from the Ministry of Science and Technology of Pakistan to study at the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom and received his PhD in 1990.[3]
Career
[edit]In 2008, he completed a one-year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Southampton's School of Electronics and Computer Science, sponsored by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.[3] His research includes work in wireless sensor networks.
Upon return from the United Kingdom in 2008, he was appointed as director of the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (IICT).
He is a guest associate editor of the International Journal of Wireless Personal Communication, published by Springer Germany.[4]
He was selected as the MUET lead representative for the Erasmus Mundus external cooperation window project, Mobility of Life, at Aalborg University in Aalborg (also spelled Ålborg), Denmark. In 2013, he attended the Erasmus Fellowship under the Strong Ties program at the University of Limerick in Ireland. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Hyderabad Information & Software Association (HiSHA).
Honours and awards
[edit]- On 14 August 2022, the President of Pakistan Arif Alvi conferred Chowdhry with the Sitara-i-Imtiaz, the nation's third-highest civilian honour, to recognize his services to the country's public and education sector.[5][6]
- Recipient of Millennium Gold Medal, 12th (XII) Star Awards South Asia Publication, 17 May 2002.[7]
