Crotalus durissus maricelae, the Maricela rattlesnake, is a subspecies of venomous pit viper from Venezuela.[1][2]
Description
[edit]The Maricela rattlesnake is a slender snake, less than a meter in length. It is greenish- or dark-brown, and it displays 22-24 light romboid markings. Its underside is a cream at the head, turning to grey for the rest of the body.[3]
Habitat
[edit]Known to inhabit the upper basin of the Nuestra Senora River, the Maricela rattle snake prefers arid areas at elevations of 1800 - 2400 m.[3]
Taxonomy
[edit]The maricela rattlesnake's status as a valid taxon is debated,[4] but recent studies declare it a valid subspecies.[3][5]
