The 2025 Lanfiera attack was a militant assault that occurred on 6 May, 2025, when fighters from Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), an al-Qaeda-affiliated group, attacked a Burkinabé military base in Lanfiera, located in Burkina Faso's Boucle du Mouhoun Region.

Background

Since 2015, the country has witnessed an escalation of violence perpetrated by jihadist groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State, which have progressively extended their control over approximately 40% of the national territory, resulting in over 26,000 recorded civilian casualties by 2025.[1]
