The 2025 Lanfiera attack was a militant assault that occurred on 6 May, 2025, when fighters from Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), an al-Qaeda-affiliated group, attacked a Burkinabé military base in Lanfiera, located in Burkina Faso's Boucle du Mouhoun Region.
Background
[edit]Since 2015, the country has witnessed an escalation of violence perpetrated by jihadist groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State, which have progressively extended their control over approximately 40% of the national territory, resulting in over 26,000 recorded civilian casualties by 2025.[1]
