The 2025 Walker Cup will be the 50th edition of the biennial men's amateur golf match between teams representing the United States and Great Britain and Ireland. The event is scheduled for September 6–7, 2025, at Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, California.

Venue

[edit]

The match will be held at Cypress Point Club, a private golf course on the Monterey Peninsula. Designed by Alister MacKenzie and opened in 1928, Cypress Point is consistently ranked among the world’s greatest courses. It previously hosted the Walker Cup in 1981. Due to limited space and environmental considerations, spectator access is restricted.[1]

Format

[edit]

The Walker Cup follows a match-play format across 26 matches:

  • Saturday
    • Morning: 4 foursomes matches (alternate shot)
    • Afternoon: 8 singles matches
  • Sunday
    • Morning: 4 foursomes matches
    • Afternoon: 10 singles matches

Each match is worth one point. Ties after 18 holes result in a half-point to each team. A total of 13½ points secures victory; a 13–13 tie results in the current holder (USA) retaining the Cup.[2]

Teams

[edit]

Each team includes 10 amateur golfers and a non-playing captain:

  • Great Britain and Ireland is selected by The R&A following key amateur championships. Captain: Dean Robertson, the first professional golfer to lead GB&I in Walker Cup history.[4]

Ticketing

[edit]

Due to limited capacity at Cypress Point, all public tickets were distributed via a random lottery. Prices were set at $100 (practice round) and $200 (match days). A resale platform will be available.[5]

Background

[edit]

The Walker Cup was inaugurated in 1922 and is named after George Herbert Walker, former USGA president and grandfather of U.S. President George H. W. Bush. The United States leads the all-time series 39–9–1.[6]
