Alice Zaslavsky is an internationally recognised [1] Australian chef[2], award-winning cookbook author [3], columnist [4], TV and radio host with the Australian national broadcaster ABC [5], public speaker [6], former reality TV contestant on Masterchef Australia [7] and food education activist [8] . Her nickname is "Alice in Frames", due to her trademark colourful spectacles and her love of wordplay and puns.[9]

Early life and education

Alice Zaslavsky was born in Georgia in 1985.[10] Her parents Arkady and Frada were both professors in computer science, and her brother Stan is eight years older. She moved to Australia in 1991 (she spoke Georgian and Russian but no English) after Georgia declared independence from the then Soviet Union. Zaslavsky's family is Jewish.[10]

Career

Zaslavsky started her career as a middle school teacher.[9] She created a free digital tool kit called Phenomenom, which is designed to support teachers in helping kids learn about food. It is used by thousands of teachers all over Australia.[11]

In 2014, when she was 26, Zaslavsky appeared in the fourth season of Masterchef Australia.[12]

Her most memorable dish was her Quattro Formaggi Pizza,[12] but she was eliminated for overcooking lamb, placing her seventh in the competition overall.

She is the "culinary correspondent" for ABC Breakfast on TV[13] hosts the show Saturday Breakfast with Alice on ABC Radio[14] and as of October hosts the TV show A Bite to Eat with Alice also on ABC TV.[15]

A Bite With Alice features Alice cooking with and interviewing celebrities from across food and entertainment.[16]

Zaslavsky is the author of four cookbooks:

  • Alice's Food A-Z (to help kids get curious about food)[17]
  • The Joy of Better Cooking (to help build cooking confidence)[18]
  • In Praise of Veg (to help households fall in love with vegetables)[19]
  • Salad for Days (helps give every cook the tools to make friends with salad)[20]

Personal Life
