Andy Rash (born April 28, 1972) is an American illustrator, animator, children's book author, and educator.[1] His editorial illustrations have appeared in publications such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Time, Entertainment Weekly, and The New Yorker.[2] Rash is known for his humorous and kinetic style, and for authoring and illustrating numerous children's books.[3]

Early life and education

Rash was born in Kingsport, Tennessee.[1] He attended the Savannah College of Art and Design, earning a BFA in illustration, and later received an MFA in illustration from the School of Visual Arts in New York City.[1][4]

Career

After graduating, Rash began his freelance career in the late 1990s, producing editorial illustrations for major magazines and newspapers.[4] He has also created animations for clients including Nickelodeon.[1] Rash is the author and illustrator of several children's books, including Eclipse, The Happy Book, Archie the Daredevil Penguin, Ten Little Zombies: A Love Story, and Are You a Horse?[1][3] His work is recognized for its humor, energy, and appeal to both children and adults.[2] Rash has also illustrated books by other authors, such as Daniel Pinkwater, Aaron Reynolds, Bob Balaban, and Kate Messner.[1][4]

He teaches illustration at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design.[5]

Personal life

Rash lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with his wife and two children.[6][2][3]
