- Comment: Fails WP:ANYBIO, requires significant coverage in multiple independent reliable secondary sources. Interviews are primary sources and not independent. Dan arndt (talk) 07:58, 29 January 2025 (UTC)
Captain Ajmeera Bobby
[edit]Ajmeera Bobby (born July 9, 1974) is an Indian commercial pilot and social activist, recognized as the first tribal woman pilot from Telangana, India. She has worked to empower marginalized communities, particularly tribal youth and women, through her contributions to education and social development.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Ajmeera Bobby was born in Dandepalli, a village in Adilabad district of Telangana, India. She belongs to the Banjara (Lambadi) tribe, a historically marginalized community. Her father, a retired teacher, emphasized the importance of education and social responsibility, which shaped her early aspirations.
She completed her schooling at Carmel Convent High School in Mancherial and later pursued a Bachelor of Arts at the University College for Women, Koti. Ajmeera earned a Master’s degree in Sociology from Osmania University, followed by an MBA. While initially encouraged to pursue medicine or civil services, her interest in aviation led her to join Air India as an air hostess, which became a stepping stone to her pilot training.
Career in Aviation
[edit]Ajmeera began her pilot training at the Rajiv Gandhi Aviation Academy but faced financial challenges that delayed her progress. In 2015, with financial assistance of ₹25 lakh from the Telangana government, she pursued further training at Dean International Flying School in Miami, Florida. She obtained her commercial pilot license after logging 250 flying hours and passing the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) test. Ajmeera also underwent type-rating training for the Airbus A320 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Her achievement as the first tribal woman from India to become a commercial pilot is regarded as a milestone in the aviation sector.
Social Contributions
[edit]Ajmeera Bobby is actively involved in mentoring tribal youth and promoting education within her community. She collaborates with various tribal welfare organizations and serves as an advisor for the Chief Minister’s Tribal Development Mission in Tripura. Her contributions include initiatives to support underprivileged students in pursuing careers in aviation and technical fields.
