The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has classified the 2024-2025 flu season severity as high across all ages. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that, as of May 17, 2025, the 2024-2025 United States flu season caused at least 47 million flu-related illnesses, 610,000 hospitalizations, and 27,000 deaths. Experts said that the flu came in two waves, during the first week of January, and an even higher peak in the middle of February.
The 2024-2025 flu vaccine has demonstrated an efficacy of approximately 40-60%, according to the National Council on Aging (NCOA)
