Based in Montreal, and founded by Irene Lilienheim Angelico and Abbey Jack Neidik, DLI Productions is a Canadian production house for documentary films and TV series.
Film Productions
[edit]Irene Angelico and Abbey Neidik teamed up in 1980 to form DLI Productions and produce and direct the feature documentary, Dark Lullabies, about the effects of the Holocaust on children of Survivors and second-generation Germans. In the summer of 2013, it was selected as the inaugural feature documentary at the Stratford Festival Forum[1], and continues to be screened, including a commemorative screening in Berlin[2] [3]and Vilnius.[4]
Angelico and Neidik went on to produce, direct and write the documentary series The Cola Conquest, [5][6][7] a metaphor for America and American influence worldwide; Black Coffee, a trilogy on the social political and revolutionary history of coffee; and Inside the Great Magazines[8] about the first international medium.
DLI's documentary one-offs include Between the Solitudes/Entre Solitudes, about the Anglos of Quebec; A Song For Tibet about the Dalai Lama and Tibetans in exile; The Love Prophet and the Children of God [9] about a sex for salvation cult; The Journey Home: A Romanian Adoption; She Got Game[10][11] about the women’s tennis tour; Unbreakable Minds, to break the stigma of mental illness; Vendetta Song[12][13] about a Kurdish honour killing; Canadaville, USA[14], a safe haven for Hurricane Katrina victims; Big Wind about the detrimental effects of wind turbines; and Shekinah: the Intimate Life of Hasidic Women[15]. The team went on to produce Beyond Earth: the Beginning of NewSpace about the privatization of space and Shekinah Rising, a follow up to the first Shekinah film. At the time of writing, DLI Productions is in production with the feature version of Reaching for Zion, a film about racism, anti-Semitism and exile featuring Bob Marley’s granddaughter Donisha Pendergrast and in distribution with First to Stand: the Cases and Cases of Irwin Cotler[16] [17] [18] about Irwin Cotler and the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights.
Books
[edit]Along with their work in film, DLI has published books and articles. The Aftermath: A Survivor's Odyssey Through War-Torn Europe by Henry Lilienheim[19][20][21] the inspiration for Dark Lullabies, which was endorsed by Nobel Peace Prize Laureates Elie Wiesel and the Dalai Lama. Angelico also edited The Third Seder: A Haggadah for Yom HaShoah[22], to commemorate the Liberation from the Holocaust. The Aftermath: Grandpa's Search for Grandma after the War is a graphic novel written and illustrated by Toben Neidik based on his grandfather's search for his grandmother.[23]
