DPA Studios is an independent video game development studio based in Chile, known for creating the action RPG roguelike The Rangers in the South. Founded by Samuel, the team behind the studio consists of a single developer and a music composer.
History
[edit]DPA Studios began as a personal project by Samuel, who spent several years developing The Rangers in the South while maintaining a day job. The studio's vision is to promote the video game industry in Chile, a country with limited opportunities in this field.
In October 2024, DPA Studios participated in the Steam Next Fest, where they presented a playable demo of The Rangers in the South. The reception was positive, highlighting its graphic style inspired by classic JRPGs and its setting based on Chile's geography and vegetation.[1]
The Rangers in the South
[edit]The main title of DPA Studios, The Rangers in the South, is a 2.5D action RPG roguelike that combines pixel art graphics with a narrative celebrating the traditions and landscapes of southern Chile. According to Samuel, the game was inspired by both classic JRPGs and Chile's rich biodiversity. Its gameplay includes unique elements, such as a system where the character's death impacts the narrative by benefiting their in-game heirs.
In an interview with the Argentine media Café Dragón, Samuel expressed his hope that the success of The Rangers in the South would open new doors for the video game industry in Latin America and allow DPA Studios to expand.[2]
Future projects
[edit]Although DPA Studios is currently focused on the release and promotion of The Rangers in the South, Samuel has mentioned the possibility of developing additional titles in the future, focusing on multiplayer and character customization.
