Duncan Raban (born 1960) is a British photographer known for his candid portraits of musicians and socially engaged street photography. His work includes behind-the-scenes documentation of prominent figures such as The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, and Grace Jones.
Early life and career
[edit]Raban began his photography career as a press photographer in the late 1970s, contributing to both British and American publications. He developed a documentary approach, often focused on capturing spontaneous and unguarded moments.
Notable work

[edit]Raban photographed The Rolling Stones during their 1982 tour of Ireland, and his images have since been featured in retrospectives.[1] In 1985, he captured behind-the-scenes moments of Tina Turner during her Private Dancertour,. Similar backstage portraits of Grace Jones have appeared in the Mirror.[2]
Social projects
[edit]In 2019, Raban launched Just Say Hello, a community-based photography initiative aimed at encouraging spontaneous human connection. The project gained national media attention, including features by BBC News[3] and The Argus.[4]
Exhibitions and publications
[edit]Raban's photographs have been exhibited in galleries across Europe. His work has also appeared in a range of music and culture publications.
