Dushyant Dubey, also known by his online persona St Broseph, is an Indian social activist and the founder of the St Broseph Foundation.[1][2] He is primarily known for his work in providing aid to individuals in distress, including assistance with filing First Information Reports (FIRs), offering legal support, addressing cybercrime and domestic violence cases, and providing shelter.[3][4] Dubey and his foundation operate with a large volunteer network, extending their services across multiple Indian cities.[5][1]

The St Broseph Foundation, established by Dubey after he reportedly left his corporate career and used personal savings, assists individuals facing various challenges.[1][2] The organization is reported to have around 10,000 volunteers in Bengaluru and also operates in cities such as Pune, Chennai, and Delhi.[5] Its services include providing 24/7 support and temporary housing, with one report mentioning the use of 15 flats for shelter purposes.[2] The foundation has claimed a 90% success rate in the cases it handles, according to an interview with Dubey.[2]

Dubey's work and his "St Broseph" moniker have gained significant media attention, with some outlets referring to him as the "Batman of Bengaluru."[1][6] In recognition of his social service, the Tamil newspaper Dinamalar reported that Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned Dubey's work with pride during a Mann Ki Baat program.[7] He was also a featured speaker at a TEDx event.[8] Furthermore, he was reportedly featured in a 2023 edition of Reader's Digest India as one of its '25 most inspirational stories'.[9]

Early life and motivation

[edit]

Dushyant Dubey, originally from Ahmedabad, is an engineer by education.[1][3] Prior to his full-time social activism, he worked in a corporate job for several years in Bengaluru, where he eventually settled.[1][10] Reports from late 2023 and early 2024 indicated his age as approximately 35.[2][7]

A pivotal moment that reportedly steered Dubey towards social work occurred in 2008.[1][2] He learned of an incident involving a young man in Mumbai who died by suicide, allegedly after streaming or indicating his intent publicly online.[5][6] According to reports, the young man had expressed a desire to talk to someone but received no response before his death.[3] This event profoundly affected Dubey, motivating him to start initiatives to help individuals in distress, and is cited as the catalyst for his subsequent activism.[2][5]

St Broseph Foundation

[edit]

Dushyant Dubey formally established the St Broseph Foundation to structure his social service activities.[6] In 2021, he reportedly resigned from his corporate engineering job to dedicate himself fully to this work, using his personal savings to provide the initial funding.[1][2] The foundation's mission is to provide free assistance to individuals facing a wide range of crises.[11] Its core activities include helping citizens file First Information Reports (FIRs) with the police, offering legal aid and advice, and providing support to victims of domestic violence and cybercrime.[12] The organization also focuses on raising awareness on legal matters, including changes to Indian law like the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.[13] Media reports have highlighted the foundation's involvement in specific local incidents, such as assisting a man who was assaulted and robbed in a 'date trap', and providing support to vendors injured in a public stabbing attack.[14][15]

Notable activism and projects

[edit]

Civic engagement and awareness

[edit]

Dubey has engaged in several civic projects in Bengaluru aimed at community improvement. He was the originator of the "Freedom Wall" (also called "Namma Wall") art project in Indiranagar, a public wall art installation created to commemorate India's national heroes.[16][17][18] His community initiatives have also included hands-on environmental work, such as organizing the cleaning of a clogged public drain and personally clearing floodwater from a major road in Indiranagar after heavy rains.[7][19][20] In June 2025, his foundation organized a "Summer Thankathon" to honour the city's frontline emergency service workers.[21]

His activism has also involved administrative issues. Through an RTI query, he confirmed that citizens can make anonymous emergency calls to the 112 helpline.[22][23] He also raised public awareness about the non-functionality of the national cybercrime helpline (1930) in Bengaluru.[24][25]

Student welfare activism

[edit]

Dubey has been an active participant in movements concerning student welfare and mental health.[26] Following a series of student suicides at PES University in Bengaluru, he joined protests alongside students and other activists, demanding systemic reforms from the university administration.[27] He has publicly commented on the need for greater empathy and robust support systems within educational institutions to prevent such tragedies.[28]

Intervention in high-profile cases

[edit]

The St Broseph Foundation has intervened in nationally discussed incidents to advocate for victims. In the aftermath of the 2024 Pune Porsche car crash, Dubey, on behalf of the foundation, submitted a formal memorandum to the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the victims' families.[29] In connection with the same case, reports state that he led a public demonstration of over 300 citizens in Shivajinagar to demand justice.[30][31]

Public profile and recognition

[edit]

Dushyant Dubey gained initial prominence through his online persona, St Broseph, which originated on the social media platform Reddit.[1][3] On the Bengaluru subreddit, he became known as a reliable "Mr Fixit" and a go-to person for assistance, allowing him to build the trust and network for his wider activities.[1] Multiple media outlets have referred to him as a "social media samaritan."[4]

His work has received significant media coverage, earning him the moniker "Batman of Bengaluru" from outlets such as ThePrint, The New Indian Express, CNBC TV18, Storypick, and Fusion WeRIndia.[1][6][32][33][34] Dubey has been invited to speak about his work at various public forums, including a TEDx event in 2024 and at a CreativeMornings talk.[8][35]

Personal life

[edit]

As of late 2023 and early 2024, multiple media reports mentioned Dubey's age as being approximately 35.[2][7] He is an engineer by qualification and is originally from Ahmedabad, though he resides in Bengaluru.[3][1]
