Elegant Steel
[edit]Elegant Steel is a flagship brand of high-strength TMT (Thermo-Mechanically Treated) bars manufactured by SPS Steels Rolling Mills Limited, a part of the Shakambhari Group in India. Headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal, the brand is known for its premium construction-grade steel used in infrastructure, commercial, and residential projects.
History
[edit]Elegant Steel was originally launched in 1993 under SPS Steels Rolling Mills Limited.[1] In 2019, the Shakambhari Group acquired SPS Steels and revitalized the Elegant Steel brand.[2] Post-acquisition, the group increased production capacity and expanded its distribution network.
Operations
[edit]Elegant Steel operates integrated steel plants in Durgapur and Purulia. These facilities follow the primary steelmaking route, producing sponge iron, billets, and high-yield TMT bars.[3] Their Fe-550D grade QST bars are widely used in infrastructure projects such as highways, flyovers, bridges, and high-rise buildings.
Products
[edit]The brand specializes in TMT/QST bars known for:
- High tensile strength and ductility
- Corrosion and earthquake resistance
- Uniform ribs for enhanced concrete bonding
- Easy bendability for construction flexibility[4]
Distribution
[edit]Elegant Steel's dealer-distributor network spans across West Bengal and 12 additional Indian states including Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam, Punjab, Rajasthan, and others.[5]
Recognition and Awards
[edit]Elegant Steel has been honored for excellence in the steel sector. In 2025, it received the "Excellence in Construction Steel Manufacturing" award at the ABP Live India Infrastructure Conclave.[6]
It has also supported events such as Zee 24 Ghanta's Ananya Samman, which honors individuals contributing to societal development.[7]
Parent Company: Shakambhari Group
[edit]Elegant Steel is part of the Shakambhari Group, an Indian industrial conglomerate with interests in steel, power, and ferro alloys. Founded in 1996, the group operates multiple plants across eastern India and has played a key role in reviving defunct units like the Gontermann Peipers plant in Kolkata.[8]
