Ethos Technologies (Ethos) is an American insurance technology company.[2] The company was founded in 2016, and is headquartered in Austin Texas.

History

[edit]

Ethos was founded in 2016 by Peter Colis and Lingke Wang.[3][1] The company's strategy was to simplify the process of buying life insurance, including eliminating medical exams.[3] Will Smith, Robert Downey Jr., Kevin Durant and Jay-Z are investors.[1]

In July 2021, the company was valued at $2.7 billion after a $100 million investment from Japanese investment holding company Softbank.[4]

Products

[edit]

Ethos develops machine learning and data science technology to help customers buy life insurance policies online.[4][2] The company is not itself an insurer, but is a managing general underwriter that sells term life insurance policies created by insurers.[1][4]
