Flagright is a RegTech company that provides an AI-native, no-code compliance platform for anti-money laundering (AML) compliance and financial crime prevention.[1] The company was founded in late 2021 by Baran Özkan and Madhu G. Nadig, and launched its full operations in January 2022.[2] Flagright’s software offers a suite of tools including transaction monitoring, case management, risk scoring, AML screening, and an AI Forensics through a centralized platform designed to streamline and modernize compliance operations.[3][4] Flagright is known for using artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing to enhance the accuracy of its fraud detection models and automate compliance workflows.[5][6] As of 2025, Flagright serves over 50 clients across six continents and has expanded its presence with offices in Europe, Asia, and North America.[7][8]

History

[edit]

Flagright was founded in November 2021 by Baran Özkan and Madhu G. Nadig. Özkan previously served in senior product roles at fintech companies, where he identified significant inefficiencies and gaps in traditional AML compliance infrastructures.[9][10] This experience led him to collaborate with Nadig, an engineer with expertise in scalable, high-performance software systems, to create Flagright.[11][7]

The company launched it's full operation in January 2022. In the same year, Flagright was selected to join Y Combinator's Winter 2022 startup accelerator batch, which provided the company with seed funding, strategic guidance, and global visibility.[12][13][14]

Originally, Flagright’s platform focused on real-time transaction monitoring delivered via a developer-friendly API.[15] Over time, the company expanded its offerings into a full-stack AML compliance platform as new technologies like artificial intelligence and large language models emerged. By late 2022, Flagright had added features such as customer risk scoring, sanctions screening, and case management to broaden its compliance toolkit.[16] In 2023, the company introduced its AI Forensics suite, which applies generative AI to compliance workflows – automating alert investigations and report generation to significantly reduce manual review times.[5] [17]

Flagright has also expanded geographically. Initially incorporated in Germany, the company established an office in Berlin and later opened its European headquarters in London as its customer base grew. It also set up regional teams and offices accross United States, Singapore, and Bangalore. This global expansion was aimed at providing around-the-clock support and closer service to financial institutions in different regionsa-team. By early 2025, Flagright’s platform was being used by over 50 financial institutions worldwide, and the company had approximately 35 employees across its international offices.[8]

Products

[edit]

Flagright offers a software-as-a-service platform for AML compliance, delivered through both APIs and a web-based dashboard. The platform’s core capabilities include:

  • Transaction Monitoring: Real-time monitoring of customer transactions against customizable rules to detect suspicious activities. Flagright’s high-performance rule engine provides sub-second API responses for fraud and money-laundering detection.
  • Case Management: An automated case management system that consolidates alerts and relevant customer data, streamlining investigation workflows for compliance analysts.
  • AML Screening: Tools for screening individuals and entities against sanctions, watchlists, and politically exposed persons (PEP) lists, using third-party data integrations to help block illicit transactions.
  • Risk Scoring: A dynamic risk scoring engine that assesses customer and transaction risk in real time, based on behavioral patterns and inherent risk factors (such as KYC data and transaction history).
  • AI Forensics: A family of AI-powered agents that automate various compliance tasks. For example, the AI Forensics for Screening module investigates AML screening alerts and generates narrative reports within seconds.[6] This AI component leverages machine learning (including large language models) to reduce false positives and expedite decision-making in investigations.[18]

Funding and Growth

[edit]

Flagright has raised multiple rounds of venture capital to support its growth. Earlier in 2022, the company announced a pre-seed funding round of $2.8 million.[19][20] This seed investment was raised shortly after Flagright’s participation in Y Combinator and helped the startup expand its product beyond transaction monitoring. The round included backing from early-stage investors such as Y Combinator and Moonfire Ventures. By June 2022, Flagright’s total funding was reported at about $3.2 million including the Y Combinator financing, which was used to develop new features like risk scoring and sanctions screening.[15] Flagright's customer base grew to over 50 institutions within 18 months post-launch, including clients in Africa, Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America.[8]

In March 2025, Flagright raised an additional $4.3 million in a seed round to fuel its global expansion and AI product development.[3] This funding round was led by the London-based venture firm Frontline Ventures, with participation from existing investors and several angel investors from the fintech industry.[21] Notable backers in the 2025 seed round included Y Combinator, Pioneer Fund, and Moonfire Ventures (who reinvested), as well as former executives from companies like Zalando, Revolut, and GoCardless.[22] Flagright announced that the new capital would be used to accelerate the rollout of its AI Forensics product line and to establish offices in key markets (including New York and San Francisco) to better serve its growing customer base.[23] The two seed rounds brought Flagright’s total funding to approximately $7.1 million as of 2025.
