Forme (legally IFGFit Inc.) is an American health‑technology and athletic‑wear company that sells FDA‑registered clothing. The designs are intended to improve posture.[1]

History

[edit]

Orthopedic surgeon, Stephen Liu, founded Forme in 2015 after designing a garment to help his mother address posture issues caused by her cancer treatments. The first public collection launched in May 2019.[1]

Products and technology

[edit]

Forme’s apparel is built from six to eight tension‑graded fabric panels that support the shoulders, spine, and core using targeted fabric tension.[1] Fast Company described the garments as “sensor‑free wearables” that use internal bands to retrain muscle memory. Several items are FDA approved and many items are eligible for FSA and HSA reimbursement.[2][3]

Reviews and Effectiveness

[edit]

Prevention magazine reported that writer Mackenzie Dunn experienced immediate improvements in posture, noting that the Forme power bra gently pulled her shoulders back and offered compressive support over time despite an initially tight fit.[4]

Shape magazine’s Kristen Geil observed similar effects during a one-month trial across a range of activities, stating that the bra subtly improved her posture without being intrusive.[3]

In a review for InStyle, a writer with a 38DD bust size reported substantial posture improvement and relief from back pain after three months of use, calling it a worthwhile investment despite the high cost.[5]

Some sources provided more cautious perspectives. SELF magazine noted that while initial posture benefits were reported, the effects diminished over time, with experts emphasizing that posture is best improved through regular movement rather than reliance on garments.[6]

Reviewed.com raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest in research cited by Forme, suggesting the need for independent studies.[7]

Operations and business model

[edit]

Forme sells about 95% of its merchandise through its own e‑commerce site. The remainder is distributed via select golf shops in the United States.[1] To protect its portfolio of 25 patents and maintain quality control, the company manufactures garments in Orange County and East Los Angeles using imported technical fabrics assembled locally.[1]

Funding

[edit]

The company had raised approximately $8 million in seed capital from physicians, dentists, and other angel investors, and is reported to be profitable.[1]

Awards and recognition

[edit]

Forme ranked No. 73 on Inc. magazine’s Regionals: Pacific list in 2024.[8]

Reception

[edit]

In Cosmopolitan’s 2023 guide to back‑support bras, the Power Bra was named the “best overall posture bra.”[9]

PopSugar credited singer Taylor Swift’s rehearsal use of the Power Bra with raising brand visibility,[10]

Forme Tour sponsorship

[edit]

In April 2021, the PGA Tour launched the U.S.-based Forme Tour as a temporary replacement for PGA Tour Canada due to COVID‑19 border restrictions. Forme served as title sponsor of the eight-event series, which awarded Official World Golf Ranking points and granted 2022 Korn Ferry Tour membership to its top five players.[11] [12] Forme said the sponsorship aligned with its mission to support athlete recovery and posture health while building awareness among professional golfers.[11]
