  • Game Pill is a Canadian video game development studio in Toronto, Ontario. It specializes in game development, interactive entertainment, and digital applications. Founded in 2000 by Michael Sorrenti, Game Pill has developed games for various platforms, including mobile, console, and web-based games.[1][2] The studio works with intellectual properties (IP) and brands, collaborating with global entertainment companies such as Viacom, Disney, Discovery Networks, and Google. Over the years, Game Pill has created and contributed to over 100 games, accumulating over 10 million play sessions.

    Overview

    [edit]

Game Pill develops branded games for clients across different industries.[3] The studio has created games for Nickelodeon, Neopets, Fisher-Price, and GSN. Among its works are games such as Tattoo Artist for Addicting Games,[2] Pizza Perfect for Nickelodeon, Deal or No Deal Slots for GSN, and Tanked for Discovery Channel and Animal Planet. Additionally, Game Pill has worked on interactive experiences and digital toys for companies like Sago Mini and Fisher-Price.[4] The company works in multiple aspects of game development, including prototyping, game design, UX/UI, marketing, and live operations. Its operations extend to connected toys, gamification, and enterprise applications as well. Game Pill has also developed online training simulations, digital product walkthroughs, and Web3 gaming experiences.

    Projects

    [edit]

Game Pill has been involved in various projects. One of its most recent projects is Hangry,[5] an action-based RPG. This game follows the character Hangry on an intergalactic journey to hunt down, carve up, and devour monsters in various landscapes.[6] Powered by Unreal Engine, Hangry features multiple environments and a gameplay loop focused on hunting, cooking, and character progression.[7][8][9] The game was showcased at The MIX during the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco.[10][11]

Another project by Game Pill is the Tanked Aquarium Game App, developed in partnership with Discovery Communications and Nancy Glass Productions. Based on the Animal Planet series Tanked, the game allows players to design and manage virtual aquariums, complete with fish selection, decorations, and maintenance tasks.[12] The app integrates mini-games and social-sharing features.[1][4] Game Pill has also developed Almost Naked Animals: Supergame, a side-scrolling adventure based on the animated children's series Almost Naked Animals. This game allows players to manage a tropical hotel and engage in various activities inspired by the TV series. The project was produced in collaboration with 9 Story Entertainment and aimed at expanding the brand's engagement with its audience.[13][14]

    Industry Impact

    [edit]

Alongside Game Pill's projects, it has also been actively involved with industry associations such as Interactive Ontario, the Academy of Arts, the International Game Developers Association (IGDA), and the Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain (DICE) Summit, where it has showcased its work and contributed to discussions on game development trends. Beyond game development, Game Pill has applied gamification to business applications. The studio has developed inventory management systems, sales tools, and training modules incorporating game mechanics. Game Pill has worked with augmented reality (AR), connected toys, and location-based experiences for theme parks, museums, and educational institutions.[1]
