Houssine Azeddoug is a Moroccan professor of genetics and molecular biology. Since 2022, he has served as the President of Hassan II University of Casablanca (UH2C).[1]

Early life and education

Azeddoug holds two doctoral degrees:

  • A PhD in Population Genetics and Evolution from Université Paris VII (1991)
  • A Doctorat d'État in Genetics and Molecular Biology from Ibn Zohr University (1994)

Academic and administrative career

Before becoming president of UH2C, Azeddoug held several academic and leadership roles:

  • Director of the École Normale Supérieure affiliated with UH2C
  • Vice-Dean in charge of Academic and Pedagogical Affairs (2009–2013)
  • Coordinator of the Academic Affairs Committee of the University Council
  • Member and Rapporteur of the Scientific Committee (2005–2013)
  • Head of the Biology Department at the Faculty of Sciences Aïn Chock (2007–2009)
  • Coordinator of the Specialized Master in Applied Biology (2006–2012)
  • Member of the Scientific and Technical Committee at the Pasteur Institute of Morocco (since 2015)
  • Vice-President of the Regional University Sports League of UH2C (since 2018)
  • Member of the Emergency Program monitoring team at UH2C

Research and contributions

Professor Azeddoug is the coordinator of the research team in Genetics and Molecular Biology. He has supervised numerous national and joint PhD theses and participated in many scientific juries.

He has authored over 23 indexed scientific publications and received more than 362 citations according to his ResearchGate profile.[2]

One of his notable contributions is:

  • Azeddoug, H. et al. (2015). Characterization of LlaKI, a New Metal Ion-Independent Restriction Endonuclease from Lactococcus lactis KLDS4. Current Microbiology. PubMed.[3]

He is also the holder of two licensed restriction enzymes commercialized by New England Biolabs (USA). He has coordinated or participated in several nationally and internationally funded research projects, and served as an expert for various institutions, including the Ministry of Higher Education, ANEAQ, and CNRST.
