Isabelle Marinov is a Luxembourgish author of children's books. She has written picture books and middle-grade fiction that have been published internationally. Her work has been reviewed in publications such as Kirkus Reviews and The Guardian, and has been translated into several languages.
Early life and education
[edit]Marinov was born in Luxembourg. In interviews, she has discussed her early interest in writing and her career shift from law to literature.[1]
Career
[edit]In 2021, Marinov published The Boy Whose Head Was Filled with Stars: A Life of Edwin Hubble, illustrated by Deborah Marcero. The book received starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews[2] and Publishers Weekly.[3]
In 2023, she published Henri and the Machine, which was nominated for the Klaus Flugge Prize. The Guardian described it as “a simple yet profound dive into why art is for everyone.”[4]
Leo and the Octopus (2021) focuses on themes of autism and neurodiversity. It received a starred review from Kirkus Reviews and is being adapted into an animated feature by Mélusine Productions.[5]
In 2024, Marinov released Boy Underground, a middle-grade novel shortlisted for the 2025 Edward Stanford Travel Writing Awards in the Children’s Travel Book of the Year category.[6] The novel explores themes of identity and independence and received positive commentary.[7]
International editions and adaptations
[edit]Marinov’s works have been translated into over six languages and published in multiple countries. Boy Underground is in development for a live-action film, and Leo and the Octopus is being adapted into an animated feature by Mélusine Productions.[5]
