Joachim Aschenbrenner
[edit]Joachim Aschenbrenner (born 1994) is a Danish Danish professional sailor best known for his success in match racing, fleet racing, and tactical leadership. He has represented Denmark in world championships and on the World Match Racing Tour (WMRT), earning major titles across multiple disciplines.
Career
[edit]Aschenbrenner’s career highlights include a gold medal at the Sailing Champions League, seven World Championship medals, five European Championship medals, and eleven national titles.[1]
He first rose to prominence in 2014, winning both the ISAF Youth Match Racing World Championship in Finland and the Sailing Champions League in Denmark.[2]
In fleet racing, he skippered the J/112E *Mathilda 4* to win the 2021 ORC World Championship in Tallinn and another ORC title in Kiel – accomplishments he discussed in an in-depth interview with Sail‑World.[3][4]
On the WMRT, Aschenbrenner was the youngest sailor invited in 2015.[5] He later claimed the Congressional Cup, Match Cup Sweden, and the US Grand Slam, and was the overall WMRT winner in 2023 and 2024.[6][7]
In 2016, he received the prestigious Klarlund Scholarship at Copenhagen’s Opera House during the Royal Danish Yacht Club’s 150th anniversary, presented in the presence of Danish royalty.[8]
