Minas Milad Qarawany is a Palestinian actor from the Galilee region in northern Israel. He is known for his work in international theatre and cinema, particularly in collaboration with director Amos Gitai. Qarawany is based in Paris.[1]
Early life
[edit]Qarawany was born in the Galilee and raised near Mount Hazon.[2] He initially pursued studies in law and business before shifting to performing arts. He later trained at the Beit Zvi School of Performing Arts in Ramat Gan, Israel.[3]
Career
[edit]Qarawany started his professional acting career in theatre and film in the late 2010s. He received international attention for his role in *Shikun* (2024), directed by Amos Gitai. The film premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and received critical acclaim from publications such as *Variety* and *Screen Daily*.[4][5]
In a 2024 interview, Gitai discussed Qarawany’s role in *Shikun*, noting his contribution to the film’s multilingual performance structure.[6]
Qarawany has performed in major theatre venues across Europe. In 2023, he appeared in *House* at the Théâtre National de la Colline in Paris, a work revisiting Gitai’s early documentary on Israeli-Palestinian relations. His performance was noted in French cultural coverage for its portrayal of Palestinian identity.[7]
In the 2024 multilingual production *Golem*, he performed in Arabic, Hebrew, English, French, and Yiddish.[8] The play toured major venues including the Barbican Theatre in London, Teatro Argentina in Rome, Berliner Festspiele, Teatros del Canal in Madrid, and La Biennale di Venezia.
Personal life
[edit]Qarawany is fluent in Arabic, Hebrew, and English. He often performs in multiple languages and draws on his multicultural background in his artistic work.[9]
