Mollagara is a mud therapy resort in Turkmenistan, located in the western part of the Karakum Desert on the shores of the saline Mollagara Lake.[1] It is situated near the Jebel railway station, approximately 24 km from Balkanabat[2]. The resort was established in 1908 and underwent a complete renovation in 2012. [3]
Current status
[edit]Mollagara operates year-round as a health and wellness resort. Following the 2012 reconstruction[4], new facilities were inaugurated. The resort specializes in mud and hydrotherapy, including brine baths. The lake's mineral-rich waters contain significant concentrations of sodium chloride, calcium chloride, magnesium, and bromine. The chemical composition of the lake varies with seasonal changes, affecting the color of the water. Volcanic mud treatments are also offered at the facility. [5]
The resort is equipped with various medical and therapeutic amenities, including UHF therapy, ultrasound, electrocardiography, computed tomography, dry hydrotherapy massage, halotherapy, barotherapy, cryotherapy, and ozone therapy. There is also a pediatric department with a capacity of 30 places and a spa center.
The accommodation facilities offer modern amenities. The resort complex includes access to the lake, with a designated solarium area for outdoor recuperation. Traditional therapies include sand baths using the hot sands of the Karakum Desert and stone therapy. There is also a swimming pool, a fitness center, and a wellness café offering a specialized diet menu.[6]
The sanatorium is designed for 815 people, including 170 families.[7][8]
