Muhammed Saam Anwar (born 2004) is an Indian powerlifter and strength coach. He gained recognition after winning the gold medal at the Asian University Powerlifting Championship 2024 in Hong Kong, becoming the first Malayali to achieve this feat. He represents India and his university team in national and international competitions.
Career
[edit]Saam began competing in powerlifting as a teenager. In 2024, he represented India at the Asian University Powerlifting Championship in Hong Kong, where he won the gold medal in the 120 kg category. His victory was reported by regional Malayalam newspapers.[2]
In 2025, he lifted a total of 827.5 kg (Squat: 352.5 kg, Bench Press: 182.5 kg, Deadlift: 292.5 kg) at the All India Inter-University Powerlifting Championship held in Kashmir.

[edit]He was awarded the Youngest Achiever of the Year by the Rotary Club of Chennai in 2024 for his outstanding contribution to Indian powerlifting.
Personal Life
[edit]Saam is from Payyannur, Kerala. He studies Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, Chennai. He is also a certified strength coach and offers online and in-person training under the brand "AJ Barbells".
