Nicholas Marshall (born 21 September 1984) is a New Zealand-born rugby union coach, who is the head coach of Club Atlético San Sebastián in Spain and was an international rugby union player with Spain.[1]
Club Career
[edit]Marshall was born in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, and attended Napier Boys' High School, where he won the National First XV Championship (New Zealand). In 2002, he was selected for the Hurricanes Secondary Schools Representative team.[2]
In 2003, Marshall signed with the Wellington Rugby Football Union academy, before transferring to the Hawke's Bay Magpies for the 2004–2005 season.[3]
In 2006, Marshall joined English club Liverpool St Helens on a one-year contract, winning the National League 2 North competition during his time there.
On 21 August 2007, Marshall moved to France to play for Bidart Union Club, where he won the French Championship.[4]
In 2008, he crossed the border into Spain, signing with Bera Bera RT.[5][6]
In 2013, Marshall joined Basque club Ordizia RE, winning the Copa del Rey de Rugby.[7]
International career
[edit]Marshall earned his first start for the Spanish team in 2011, making his debut against Romania in May.[8]
In 2011, he debuted for the Spanish National Sevens side playing on the World Rugby Sevens Series.[9]
Coaching Career
[edit]In 2012, Marshall joined Club Atlético San Sebastián as the Technical Director and head Coach.
That same year, he also took on the role of head coach and selector for the Basque Women's Olympic 7s Program, overseeing a squad that several players went on to represent Spain in international competitions over the following years.[11]
In 2019, Marshall was appointed head coach of the senior women's team at La Única Rugby Taldea.[12]
In 2021, he returned to Club Atlético San Sebastián, where he currently serves as the Technical Director.
