The channel was created by a billionaire Frank Gotthardt him belongs to Compugroup it's a medical software[2]. In one of his rare interviews at the beginning of the year, he said in a regional podcast that the media landscape needed ‘a supplement in the conservative sector’. In his own words, the millionaire wants to close a gap in the German media landscape with ‘Nius’ and is committed to it ‘out of civic responsibility’. Something must be done to counter the predominance of the media, which tends to be on the left. ‘The new centre is on the left, so we have to be right of centre,’ he says. So far, neo-conservative media are rare in the country, but Gotthardt believes the market potential is huge. The entrepreneur is not a party member himself, but was head of the CDU's economic council in Rhineland-Palatinate for a long time and also appears at local party events. According to those close to him, however, he has been disappointed with the CDU's course for several years. He is also annoyed by the inconsistent approach of the major parties to illegal migration. Gotthardt is said to have become aware of Reichelt through his son Daniel Gotthardt, who has been head of Compugroup since the summer. Observers compare the relationship between the entrepreneur and the journalist as a father-son relationship. For Gotthardt, Reichelt is ‘an enormously strong media man’ about whom he has done his research. He is reliable, extremely motivated, has charisma - and is a good, albeit loud, journalist.
‘Nius’ is not Gotthardt's only media investment. A few weeks ago, he increased his stake in the right-wing populist online medium ‘Exxpress’ in Austria - but according to fellow travellers, he is not a right-wing populist. Gotthardt has been operating the three local stations DRF1, TV Mittelrhein and Westerwald-Wied TV in Rhineland-Palatinate for some time. Nius has received approval from the Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg (MABB) for a nationwide special-interest television programme with the working title Nius TV[3].
