Oscan N. Obsioma was among the first students of Masanori Takahashi Shihan when the first JKA dojo was established in Cebu City. He was the first Filipino karateka who passed the shodan (1st degree black belt) test under Takahashi Shihan, Nogochi Shihan and Nishimoto Shihan. He is an International JKA Certified Sandan and has a JKA Lifetime Membership. He is a highly decorated JKA Philippines karateka whose achievements span nationally and internationally. His impressive records in karate tournaments are proof of his relentless pursuit of perfection in karate and in life. Additionally, his dedication in spreading karate is evident through the establishment of chapters across regions in the Philippines, showcasing his commitment to nurturing the art form within diverse communities. As the Chief Instructor of the JKA Philippines, we are in a great position to be one of the “Keepers of Karate’s Highest Tradition”.

1974 – 2nd Runner-up, First World Invitational Goodwill Karate Tournament in Cebu, against JKA Senseis Masahiko Tanaka and Yoshiharu Osaka.

Team Captain, Philippine Team to the Dual Meet versus the Republic of China in Taipei, Taiwan, ROC.

1976 – 2ND Runner-up, Second National Karate Championship, in Davao City.
1977 – Team Captain, Philippine Team to the Fourth World Karate Championship, at The Budokan Hall, Tokyo, Japan, under his no. 88 Competitor’s registration number.
1979 – Team Captain, Philippine Team to the ASEAN Karate Tournament in Manila.
1980 – Champion, Sixth National Karate Championship in Cebu City.
1981 – 1st Runner-up, Seventh National Karate Championship, in Legaspi City, Albay province.
